University of Celaya inaugurates Automation Cell for Industry 4.0

Celaya, Guanajuato (November 11, 2023) - The University of Celaya celebrated the inauguration of the I4.0 AUTOMATION CELL at the Center for Innovation in Engineering on Saturday, November 11, as part of the 35th anniversary of its founding. Carlos Esponda Morales, General Director of the University of Celaya System, Dr. Martha Aguilar Trejo, Rector of the institution, and Mr. Juan Yúdico Herrasti, Councilor of the eastern region of Fundación Empresarial Guanajuato, presided over the ribbon cutting ceremony that marked the beginning of this new stage in the educational field.

The acquisition of the I4.0 AUTOMATION CELL was made possible thanks to a co-investment of 30% from FIDESSEG and 70% from the University of Celaya, which represents a milestone in engineering education in Mexico. Bosch Rexroth's one-of-a-kind XITE Automax 600 equipment incorporates Industry 4.0 technologies, artificial intelligence, big data and the cloud in its automated processes.

Representatives of companies from the industrial sector such as BOSCH LATINOAMERICA, GKN, PRETTL, SKILLTECK, HUTCHINSON, IECA, as well as elementary school educators, academic directors, teachers and students, joined in this event. Also present were leaders of the STEM and PERAJ social programs, as well as student mentors and the children who are the raison d'être of these programs, accompanied by their mothers.

The AUTOMATION CELL I4.0, with the Automax equipment, will not only enrich the education of the students of the University of Celaya, but will also have a positive impact on the education of more than 300 children participating in the project "Integral Development of Celaya's Children", which integrates the institutional programs STEAM and PERAJ, bringing educational innovation to the community.

At this event, the UniElectric Car, an electric vehicle developed by students who participated in the "Towards Electric Mobility" competition, was also on display, highlighting the commitment of the University of Celaya to the integral and avant-garde education of its students.

The I4.0 AUTOMATION CELL not only represents a significant technological advancement for the University of Celaya, but also demonstrates a continued commitment to academic excellence and preparing students for the challenges of the future.

UniBocuse d'Or 5th edition

UniBocuse d'Or 5th edition

Inspired by the Bocuse d'Or culinary competition, designed in 1987 by renowned chef Paul Bocuse, which brings together the most promising culinary talents from around the world, the fifth edition of the UniBocuse d'Or was presented to test, through a concept, the technical and creative skills of culinary art students.

On this occasion, the competition was based on the parameters of Nouvelle cuisine, which refers to the following commandments:

Freshness: Using fresh and seasonal ingredients is fundamental in nouvelle cuisine.
Simplicity: The aim is to simplify the preparation of dishes, avoiding heavy sauces and garnishes.
3. Portion sizes: Portions are smaller and focus on quality over quantity.
4. Presentation: Great attention is paid to the aesthetics of the dishes, with elegant and creative presentations.
5. Innovation: Creativity is key, encouraging new flavor combinations and culinary techniques.
6. Respect for tradition: Despite the innovation, the basis of classic French cuisine is respected.
7. No overcooking: Ingredients are cooked precisely to maintain their flavor and texture.
8. Light sauces: Lighter sauces and reductions are used instead of heavy sauces.
9. Less fat: The use of butter and heavy fats is reduced compared to classic cooking.
10. Personal expression: Chefs can express their personal style and creativity in each dish.

To advance to the finals held on October 19, the students had to design a savory and a sweet dish, standardize the recipe for both dishes, generate a sketch of an idea to present on the day of the contest, and finally produce the dish and present it to the judges.

The experts who served as judges for the competition were professionals with an important trajectory in the gastronomic sector:
César Enciso: Executive Chef at the Rosewood San Miguel de Allende, an ultra-luxury hotel internationally recognized for the quality of its service.
Samuel Ruvalcaba: Executive Chef of the Belmond Sierra Nevada Hotel, recently acquired by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.
Carlos Solís: Executive Chef of Mezzé Restaurant and who develops innovative projects in different gastronomic establishments of the group.

Congratulations to Alondra, Alejandra and Diego, 1st place winners, to Pamela, Camila and Eugenio, 2nd place winners and to Yessica and Alexa, 3rd place winners.

Young people from Guanajuato will propose an event to reactivate Celaya.

In an institutional event with special guests representing the Government of the State of Guanajuato, the municipal government of Celaya, business associations and Higher Education Institutions (HEI), the University of Celaya officially launched the call for the Unichallenge contest in its 2022 edition to challenge the creativity and innovation of the people of Guanajuato to come up with an event that will boost the economic and social reactivation of Celaya.

Since 2018, every year the University of Celaya launches the call for the Unichallenge whose axis is to analyze a specific local problem to which university students, together with expert mentors, offer tailored solutions.

Those who accept the challenge must organize their team composed of a maximum of 5 members: on the one hand, 4 university students (maximum 2 from the same IES); and, on the other hand, an expert mentor (teacher or graduate of one of the institutions in which the students participate), with the requirement of having the accompaniment of a mentor or organization from the public or private sector specialized in event organization (without him or her being part of the team). There will be cash prizes for the first 3 places. The call for entries is open from August 9th until August 31st of the same month of the current year. Get to know the phases of the contest and accept the challenge. Check the terms and conditions here!

From its first edition to date, the challenges for the participants of the contest have been diverse: the responsible use and consumption of water, the positioning of Celaya's cajeta at a national level, the strengthening of the sense of identity of being from Celaya, to name a few. The important thing about the challenge is to engage young people in the solution of real problems so that they get involved, raise awareness, act and also learn from the talent of teachers, mentors and/or specialized organizations.

Our institution is very grateful to have the support and collaboration for the Unichallenge initiative to continue to be a reality thanks to the synergy that has been generated between society, government, companies and higher education institutions of important presence in Celaya and the state of Guanajuato, in order to contribute to the proactive solution of the great global challenges of the local and regional level, for the benefit of the youth of Guanajuato and the common good.

Challenge: innovation and entrepreneurship" begins

Challenge: innovation and entrepreneurship" begins

Universidad de Celaya starts the Academic Challenge "Innovation and Entrepreneurship" that brings together companies from Celaya, students of the Global Business and Culinary Arts degrees, as well as the Ministry of Sustainable Economic Development (SDES) with the objective of designing value propositions that enhance the commercialization of products and/or services through innovative business plans to reactivate and boost commercial activity and economic revitalization of the city.

The challenge is to consider the products of at least 3 of the 4 participating companies (Bachoco, Beta Procesos, Coca-Cola FEMSA and La Tradicional de Salgado), that the equipment for the proposed business does not exceed 35 thousand pesos and that the idea is innovative. The proposals will be developed during the semester, to be presented at the end of November to entrepreneurs, teachers and representatives of the SDES.

The university students who have taken this challenge in their hands have the great opportunity to develop skills for their professional life such as: critical thinking, collaborative work, decision making, problem solving and leadership, as well as to strengthen their creativity and entrepreneurial vision.

University of Celaya promotes the development of Guanajuato with productive academic linkages.

University of Celaya promotes the development of Guanajuato with productive academic linkages.

The linkage with the productive sector through projects framed in the institutional Business Linking Program where our students, guided by their professors, work on real projects to propose solutions to community needs, is just one way in which the University of Celaya collaborates with the progress of the country and develops professional and leadership skills in students.

This Monday, August 9, 2021 in the municipality of Comonfort, Pueblo Magico, Governor Diego Sinhué Rodríguez recognized the efforts of the Institution and the academic community during the official presentation of the Title and Logo of the Collective Trademark "MCG Molcajetes de Comonfort, Guanajuato", This project was managed by Karime Velázquez Rico, now a law graduate, and contributes to the positioning of Guanajuato as a productive entity and a national reference in Industrial Property, adding with this 10 collective trademarks that boost the competitiveness of MSMEs.

The action consisted in the incorporation of a group of master craftsmen who design and produce traditional molcajetes of andesitic basalt from Comonfort as a commercial company and, once this requirement was fulfilled, in November 2019 the registration of the collective trademark was obtained before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) in the city of León.

This work is in addition to many other activities that have been carried out by different areas of the University with various associations of artisans in our state where they have been supported in the development of websites, corporate image, digital catalogs, access to global portals for online sales, promotion and regional and national projection, among others, thus reinforcing the institutional commitment as a learning community in generating opportunities for a more prosperous Mexico.
