Encouraging scientific production in higher education

Encouraging scientific production in higher education

Miguel Olea, a UNAM graduate and creator of different content, management, leadership and innovation platforms, presented, via videoconference, the paper entitled "Scientific Production in Higher Education Institutions".

Universities fulfill several functions in society, one of which is to produce scientific knowledge that can be applied to increase the progress and development of their environment.

This knowledge must be shared to have a real impact and currently one of the most effective ways of doing this is by publishing research in specialized portals and scientific journals.

Mr. Olea is an expert on this subject, and from Spain he shared with us his perspective on how scientific journals currently work, how they choose what to publish, how they corroborate that the information is truly scientific and how to ensure that their content reaches the greatest possible number of people.

He also spoke of the importance of teachers being generators of knowledge, collaborating with other teachers from the same institution or from other institutions in research projects and sharing all their results first in their own institution and then on platforms that disseminate the information.

Similarly, it is essential that institutions have programs that encourage this activity in their teachers, with a specialized portal to upload projects, a system of awards, remuneration and benefits for this practice, only in this way can the institution fully comply with this academic and social commitment.

The subject of Feasibility of Investment Projects has defined the topic of Financial Feasibility, so this activity had the objective of guiding the students in the projects they are carrying out.

Mr. Cantillo gave a lecture on "Sharing Experiences in Project Development" and currently teaches at Tecnológico Comfenalco in Cartagena de Indias.

The participating students asked interesting questions about the feasibility and duration of an investment project and solicited advice on how to make projects more likely to succeed.

At the end of the event, the speaker congratulated the participants for having made the decision to study an online postgraduate program at the Universidad de Celaya because it is an educational trend in constant growth.

Driving safely

In order to raise awareness among our Prepa Uni students, Josué Banda and Fernando Bujanos, from the "Doble Control" driving school, talked to our students about the importance of taking certain safety measures when driving.

How many students know how to drive? More than 5o% answered affirmatively to the question and from here the speakers gave recommendations that should always be taken into account so that a mistake at the wheel does not put life at risk. Most of them we already know: always wear your seat belt, never drive tired or under the influence of alcohol, avoid any kind of distractions with the telephone, always drive respecting traffic signs, keep the distance between cars, always drive at a moderate speed, hold the steering wheel with both hands and keep the car, tires and lights in optimal conditions.

These are simple measures that make a big difference; following these steps considerably reduces the risk of suffering any type of accident. These recommendations should become a habit, and because of their simplicity it is important not to take them lightly, since most fatal accidents are related to the neglect of one or more of these measures.

The young people watched high-impact videos on safety and its consequences, and in addition, Josué and Fernando prepared two dynamics in which the children participated: In one, the young people simulated a car with chairs and received a detailed explanation of how a crash occurs; in the other dynamic, four students transmitted a series of driving tips to their classmates.

The future of tourist agencies.

How will tourism agencies work in the future? Yamil Saman, of Ecuadorian origin and manager of a tourist agency called VIATAM, talked to the students of the Bachelor's Degree in Tourism about this topic.

Yamil recounted his beginnings in this industry in rural and community tourism, focused on groups that carried out full-day activities in well-known destinations. Today this has changed, and although there is still a niche for this more traditional tourism, young people and the new generations will seek, more than getting to know representative places, to live experiences, to make the most of their time, with multiple activities that appeal to the senses and emotions, with greater agility, more interactive, with mechanisms that allow them to share their experiences instantly on the networks.

Tourism will no longer be so mechanized or focused on heterogeneous groups of people, it will have to be personalized and part of the experience will be to meet and live with those you travel with, there will have to be differentiation in the service, which will involve greater vocation, knowledge, customer research and the possibilities of destinations, global vision, innovation, entrepreneurship and many other skills to stand out and be professionals in this industry.

"Being a professional is balancing your passion with responsibility" interview with Moisés Fuentes, Communication graduate from Uni.

Moisés Fuentes, studied Communication at the University of Celaya, always with his camera in tow, founded an advertising agency (50.1mmstudio) through which he has worked for brands such as Warner Music Mexico, VisitMéxico, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, and his work has been published by brands such as SECTUR, Harper's Bazaar, Living & Travel, Trip Advisor, Conde Nast Traveler, Best Day, among others. Living & Travel, Trip Advisor, Conde Nast Traveler, Best Day, among others. In this interview he tells us about his experience as a graduate.

What do you currently do?

I dedicate myself practically to do what I like, I don't have a start time at work, I can go out to contemplate the afternoon without remorse of what time it might be, listen to music, go to the movies on a Monday afternoon, all that motivates me to generate ideas and make them exist through photography, audio and video for advertising purposes.

What skills do you need to be a professional in what you do?

From my point of view, to be a professional is to balance passion in what you do with responsibility; doing what you like and working on your own does not mean absence of commitments, on the contrary, to be a professional implies to fulfill yourself and those who are looking for your talent, to be persistent and to keep yourself in constant academic preparation, that marks the fine line between producing professionally or being a simple consumer.

What advantages did Uni give you in your training?

At the University I began to see things in a more objective way, I was fortunate to have teachers who influenced my desire to achieve something beyond the everyday, think big, set high goals, I remember a special teacher, Gabriel Martinez Meave, who in each class left us his passion on the blackboard and I loved it, I remember a phrase of his that I carry in my pocket every day: "you have to do things as best as possible", this phrase is as easy or as complicated as you want to interpret it.

Why study a Bachelor's Degree in Communication?

I am convinced that communication is an essential career to mediate concepts in this society, it is something like a bridge that connects the east with the west, opposite poles, looking for an understanding; with a career like this you acquire the necessary skills to land all that.

What projects do you have in the pipeline?

There are always many projects to come, but the closest one is one that will benefit many local young people who seek to be better in this that we are passionate about: photography, and we are organizing a photography workshop where several professionals will come to give workshops and lectures next March 24 and 25, 2017 here in Celaya, you can see all the information of the event on our Facebook page, it will be a pleasure to see you there.

Prepa Uni IB in Young Business Talents.

International Baccalaureate students Alejandro Rocha, Luis Alejandro Paredes and Luis Ricardo Lara are the finalists who will represent the University of Celaya in the national Young Business Talents competition.

Starting from the concern to understand the operation of a company in a virtual way from their Business Management class taught by Professor Francisco Javier León, the three students accepted the challenge of playing an online portal in which they had to face decision-making, teamwork and extensive research in order to manage a real business model dedicated to the sale of creams and sunscreens.

By studying the terms presented in the simulator, holding weekly meetings in the university's computer center and constantly analyzing the production and sales of their business model, the young people managed to reach the final stage of the competition. This will take place at the National Library in Mexico City on May 12, in which the young people will participate against 75 other teams, which in turn will be divided into five final teams.

It is worth noting that this is the first time that the University of Celaya has been invited to this competition. The simulations began in mid-November, continuing even during the holiday period, and the students passed to the last stage in February. Since then they have been studying and preparing for the final phase to be held in May.

Alumnos de Ingeniería concursan en Nevada con vehículo de tracción humana.
