It made me understand very important things in life

It made me understand very important things in life

Deisi Valeria is studying Culinary Art and won the international scholarship to study for a semester at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Colombia.

When you entered Uni, did you know there were international programs?

No, I was unaware that this program existed for international scholarships.

At what point and why did you start thinking about applying for a scholarship and studying in another country?

I learned about this program in my second semester, however, I thought about applying in my fifth semester. I was very excited to get to know another country.

Why did you decide to study in that country?

Because Colombia called my attention, from the culture, gastronomy and society.

How was the scholarship application process?

The process was quite simple, you only have to fill out a form on behalf of the University of Celaya and meet certain requirements that are required; they support you in everything.

How did you prepare for this new experience?

As a 9th semester student, I had to prepare all my requirements for graduation, such as my internship, social service, and also, I had to look for too much information to live in Colombia.

How did you feel when you arrived in the new country?

I was very excited and at the same time quite scared because I did not know if it would be a good experience, if the country would be as I imagined it would be, but it was really a very good experience.

How have you been received at the university where you arrived?

Everyone was too kind, like a second family, they welcome you with open arms.

What do you miss the most about Mexico and UNI?

From Mexico I missed my family and the food.

What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience? And the most difficult?

The most difficult thing was to arrive in a country so different from yours, the fear of an experience being so far away from your homeland and the most exciting thing is all the places I have had the opportunity to know and the friendships I have made.

How do you think this experience will influence you as a person and professionally?

For the professional side I feel that winning an international scholarship gives you a good opportunity to put it on your CV and for me, it made me understand very important things in life, it gives you a bigger vision of the things you can achieve.

What advice would you give to those who are about to go on exchange to another country?

They should be prepared in the best possible way before leaving, and be open to all possibilities.

Would you recommend these opportunities offered by UNI to your colleagues?

Of course it is, without a doubt it is a great opportunity that should be taken advantage of, Thank you Universidad de Celaya!

I feel more capable of achieving my goals

Paola from Communication and Audiovisual Media won the Uni scholarship for a semester at the Universidad Mayor, Campus Santiago, Chile.

When you entered UNI, did you know there were international programs?

Yes, it was one of the reasons I chose to study at the University of Celaya.

When and why did you start thinking about applying for a scholarship and studying in another country? Since my first semester I started to prepare and work to get a scholarship, but it was in my fifth semester when I started to apply; I always wanted to go on an exchange program to learn about another culture.

Why did you decide to study in that country?

I chose to go to Chile because it is one of the most developed countries in Latin America, besides having a diversity of landscapes, it is a country full of incredible places.

How was the scholarship application process?

I started to do things since I started my career and have a profile to be selected for the scholarship; from volunteering, services and extracurricular things. So when the scholarships are announced you have a better chance of being a beneficiary.

How did you prepare for this new experience?

I started looking for accommodation from Mexico, and making a list of things I would like to visit or do to make the most of this experience.

How did you feel when you arrived in the new country?

Arriving in Chile I was nervous and excited at the same time, it was a totally new experience for me, I felt ready for anything to come. Chile is a country with warm people and everyone helped us to get to our accommodation, even when we arrived they helped us to find what we needed.

How have you been received at the university where you arrived?

The Universidad Mayor, since we were in Mexico, helped us with the process to obtain the visa, they also offered us housing options, and when we arrived in Chile they gathered the exchange students to welcome us and explain a little about the University.

What do you miss the most about Mexico and UNI?
Without a doubt the food, in Chile things don't have much flavor, besides they don't have much variety of products, about UNI what I miss the most is the community, at UMayor they don't have events to socialize, so it is difficult to meet new people.

What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience? And the most difficult?

The most exciting thing I have experienced is to be able to travel with my friends to different places, it is an unforgettable experience, the most difficult thing so far has been having to organize myself, now everything depends on me, so I have to organize my time very well.

How do you think this experience will influence you as a person and professionally?

This experience helped me to grow as a person, I feel more capable of achieving my goals, coming on exchange opened another perspective of the world, and of what I would like to do with my life.

What advice would you give to those who are about to go on exchange to another country?

Make the most of this opportunity, live and experience as much as you can, do things you wouldn't usually do, and make friends with people from another country, exchange cultures.

Would you recommend these opportunities offered by UNI to your colleagues?

I would 100% recommend going on an exchange, it is an experience that is like nothing else, you may be scared to go alone at first, but I promise you that after that you won't want to go back, you will meet amazing people and travel to places you never imagined. Thank you UNI!

I was fulfilling a dream I had for many years.

Mauricio Espinoza is a student of Industrial Engineering and thanks to Uni's international scholarships he studied for a semester at the University of Oviedo, Gijón campus, in Spain.

When you entered Uni did you know there were international programs?

Yes, I already knew about all the international programs that Uni has and the opportunities for us students and it was one of the reasons why I decided to study at Uni.

When you entered your career, did you think you would go to live and study abroad?

When I entered the career I already knew about the opportunities and from the beginning I was interested and acted in favor of winning a scholarship, then with time and because of the pandemic I thought it was no longer possible and that I would not study abroad, at the end of all the opportunities opened up and it was possible.

Have you ever lived or studied outside of Mexico before?

Prior to this I had not studied outside of Mexico.

What prompted or motivated you to study in another country?

What motivated me to study in another country was to learn about the country I was in, its customs and to learn to be independent and grow as a person.

Why did you decide to study in that country?

Spain was always my first choice to study abroad, I decided to study in Spain because of the language we have, I wanted to know more about Spain and its customs and I wanted to get out of my comfort zone being in Europe.

In addition, the University of Oviedo has a great level and that motivated me to make it my choice to study there.

How did you feel when you arrived in the new country?

When I arrived in Spain it was very exciting because I was fulfilling a dream I had for many years and I was going to live an unforgettable experience.

How have you been received at the university where you arrived?

In the first days in Gijón we went to the University to choose the subjects and they treated us well, they helped us with all the doubts we had and with all the process that had to be done. The teachers supported us in everything and so it was a little easier.

What will you miss most about Mexico and UNI?

What I missed most about Mexico was the family, food and the weather since it is very cold, and from Uni I missed my friends and classmates.

What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience?

The most exciting thing I have experienced in this experience are the trips I have made, the new places, food and customs that are made.

And the hardest part?

The most difficult thing is being away from your family, learning to be independent and the level or educational system in Spain, which is totally different from Mexico.

What do you expect as a person and as a professional from this experience?

What I expect from this experience is to grow as a person, to learn, to be more responsible and to value everything we have and have achieved.

Do you recommend these opportunities provided by Uni to your colleagues?

These opportunities are 100% recommendable for my colleagues because you learn a lot, you value, grow and see life in other countries in different ways, as well as getting to know new places.

Any other comments:

As a comment I would like to thank the University of Celaya and the Internationalization Department for all the opportunities they give us students to grow and have different experiences in our lives.
