PREPA UNI students represented us at ALEXMUN 2019, a United Nations simulation event held at the Alexander Bain Institute in Irapuato, which was attended by about 200 students from different high schools in the country.
To participate in this event, students prepare their proposals and documents two months in advance. In these forums they must consider the political position of the country, important social events, problems, economic generalities, etc.
Some of the committees in which our students participated were: OECD (Organization for economic cooperation and development), UN WOMEN (United Nations Women), UNCHR (United Nations High Conditioner for Refugees), UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund).
After 3 days of long debates and negotiations in English, students VEVA MIRIAM CABRERA and PIA VIEYRA ARROYO won the Best Delegate and Best Diplomat awards respectively.
Honorable mentions also went to students BRENDA JAIR NARA FAT and JOSÉ AGUSTIN CISNEROS FIGUEROA.
All with excellent performance and outstanding participation.

Dr. Ramon Sanchez, Director of Innovation and Technology at the Harvard School of Public Health, gave training to facilitators of the Program for Strengthening the Innovation and Sustainability Ecosystem in the state of Guanajuato on December 10 and 11 at the University of Celaya.
More than 80 professionals, entrepreneurs, academics, leaders of business chambers, incubation centers, specialists and agents of change from all over the state, who have the vocation to contribute to the strengthening of the innovation ecosystem, participated in the event.
The next stage will be the Macro-workshop: "Creating businesses with global and sustainable impact", which will begin on February 22nd, with an expected 1,000 to 2,000 participants from all over the state: students, entrepreneurs, professionals, businessmen, executives, researchers, investors, government officials, civil associations, NGOs and the general public who want to generate successful high-impact business plans.

Ignacio Gama won the Uni International Scholarship to study in South Korea.
When you entered Uni did you know there were international programs?
Yes, I found out since I asked for reports to enter the race.
Did you think you would go to live and study abroad?
No, I thought that there were going to be many obstacles and that the competition was going to be strong.
Have you ever lived or studied outside of Mexico before?
No, never.
What prompted or motivated you to study in another country?
To get to know new customs, cultures and meet people from different countries.
Why did you decide to study in that country?
Because it was one of the two countries where I would have to practice my English skills and learn about other cultures.
How did you feel when you arrived in the new country?
I felt nervous, because I was the only Mexican who arrived separately and I had no one to talk to at first, and no one to ask for help if I got lost. But those nerves went away as soon as I left the airport.
How have you been received at the university where you arrived?
Very good. The university helped me since I arrived there, because I arrived there has a volunteer student program called "buddies of Hallym", in which the students of the university help you before you arrive to the country, since they wait for you in the arrival halls of the airport so you don't leave alone, since the university is almost 3 hours away from the airport. They also help you with the loading of your materials and the arrangement of your room.
What will you miss most about Mexico?
The food was what I missed the most, also the warmth of us Mexicans, both friendly countries, but in a different way. I also missed my own room in terms of privacy, as I had never shared a room with anyone else.
What about the Uni?
I didn't miss so many things about Uni since I was sure that I would be back and that not many things would change so radially. What I did miss was being able to talk with the teachers and with my classmates and with the university in general.
What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience?
All in all it was an experience that I do not regret, but if I have to choose 3 moments, they would be learning to ski in the snow, traveling to Busan with some friends and being able to go to a friend's farm and being able to spend time with his family and prepare a typical dish called "Kimchi".
And the hardest part?
To say goodbye to all the friends I made throughout the semester, because unfortunately we were all from places that were not 2 hours away. And I don't know when I will be able to see them again.
What do you expect as a person and as a professional from this program?
Growing in both aspects and in being more culturally empathetic. It also gave me a greater sense of competitiveness than we are used to at Uni.
Do you recommend these opportunities provided by Uni to your colleagues?
Of course, experiences like these are unique and I don't think anyone has ever regretted them. From long programs such as Semester Abroad to short programs such as "hands around the world".

Gerardo Francisco García is studying Digital Design and was awarded a scholarship to study for a semester at Hallym University in South Korea.
When you entered Uni did you know there were international programs?
I had heard about the programs before, but never in depth, I didn't know how they worked or their international reach.
Did you think you would go to live and study abroad?
Before I started my studies I never thought about it, later during the semesters I thought about it, but I never applied for the different calls for applications.
Have you ever lived or studied outside of Mexico before?
Never.
What prompted or motivated you to study in another country?
On the one hand, I have always been interested in the different cultures of the world, wanting to know and live on the other side of the world. On the other hand, the comments of my classmates who had already participated in these programs helped me to decide to apply for this program.
Why did you decide to study in that country?
I had already heard many things about South Korea, and I already knew about the culture of the country. I took it as the best option because of the cultural differences and the fact that it is completely on the other side of the world.
How did you feel when you arrived in the new country?
Complete amazement and fear, everything I had heard about the country came true. Amazement because everything was new to me, every little detail of Korea made me learn new things. Fear because of the fact that everything was different and it was a little complicated to understand things since most of them were written in Korean.
How have you been received at the university where you arrived?
Hallym University behaved in a spectacular way, the teachers as well as the students in charge of the "Buddy" program facilitate all the procedures that you may need inside and outside the university, always fraternal and kind, offering their help for whatever you may need.
What will you miss most about Mexico?
My family, friends and very important the food. It is well known that Mexican cuisine is one of the richest in the world and it shows when you are on the other side of the world.
What about the Uni?
More than anything my friends, you get used to the people you have been living with for more than 4 years and the absence is noticeable.
What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience?
Every day is a new adventure, you never know what might happen, from the various activities that the "Buddy" program has prepared for us to meeting new people that help you grow as a person and as a professional. But if I had to choose I guess it would be the first snowfall of winter, it just happened on the weekend so we were all able to enjoy various outdoor activities.
And the hardest part?
At the beginning I would say that the language, if you went out of the university and you didn't find a person who spoke Korean, everything became a little complicated, the basics of the language you learn with time thanks to the basic Korean class.
What do you expect as a person and as a professional from this program?
I hope to learn and grow in all aspects of life. I am having one of the best experiences of my life and I owe it all to this program and to the University of Celaya.
Do you recommend these opportunities provided by Uni to your colleagues?
Highly recommended to all my fellow students at the University of Celaya, truly.... if you have the possibilities to study in another country I am one hundred percent sure that you will never regret it. You can learn a lot about the country you travel to, the people who live there, the other exchange students and you can even learn something new about yourself.

The School of Architecture received the invitation of M. Arq. José Luis Alvarez Tinajero, Director of NODE a creative nexus, progressive and parametric architecture firm, with presence in New York, Mexico City and Brussels. NODE in the eighth edition of its project BIO.series, is honored to present Bjarke Ingels founder of BIGBjarke Ingels Group, in Mexico City, with the intention of honoring the trajectory of one of the most innovative and important architectural offices today.
Our architecture students will have the opportunity to attend Bjarke Ingels ' Keynote Lecture on April 8, where he will receive the National 'KALMANANI' Award (which means Master Architect in Nahuatl, the ancient language of the Aztec Empire). NODE has been a promoter of progressive architecture in Mexico and has brought together professionals of international stature to share his ideology and trajectory, becoming an inspiration for Mexican architects.
