Mikel Guerrero, from Global Business, won the international scholarship to study in Gijón, Asturias in Spain:
When you entered Uni did you know there were international programs? Yes.
When you started your career, did you think you would go to live and study abroad? Yes, but, in the middle of my career, due to the pandemic and the job where I had done my internship months before, I stopped contemplating it (while still applying for the call).
Have you ever lived or studied outside of Mexico before? Yes, first year of high school in Canada.
What motivated you to study in another country? To know the academic level, the culture, to live new experiences, to know more countries, the learning and the challenge of starting to face daily life without people so attached to me (family).
Why did you decide to study in that country? Because it is the country that most attracted my attention, since in addition to having family, I like its culture and it is a more developed country.
What did you feel when you arrived in the new country? Satisfaction, tranquility and excitement.
How have you been received at the university where you arrived? Well, there was no induction week or anything like that, and as for the subjects, I chose the ones that were left and that best fit my schedule, even so, the subjects are quite interesting, the professors are excellently prepared and willing to support you with advice.
What will you miss most about Mexico and UNI? Tacos, family and friends.
What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience? Visiting family and getting to know other countries.
And the hardest part? The university, this is where professional and personal growth is demonstrated in order to face other study models.
What do you expect as a person and as a professional from this experience? I hope that this will be a tool that will help me to open more doors in my personal and professional life. As a professional I hope to finish university and return to Spain or somewhere in the European Union.
Do you recommend these opportunities provided by Uni to your colleagues? Of course, 100%.
Any other comments: Thanks to the university and the support of my parents I had this great opportunity that allows me to continue growing as a person in all aspects to achieve my goals.

No tener miedo de aplicar a ninguna beca, pero se debe de tener en mente que todo se obtiene con esfuerzo y dedicación y todo es posible, nosotros mismos creamos nuestras oportunidades.

"Being a STEM mentor is an excellent opportunity to participate in changing the mindset towards the recognition of women in our society."
The University of Celaya's commitment to the Celaya community has outlined key lines of action for its institutional plans and projects, providing opportunities for those who wish to develop their skills, enhance their talent and achieve their goals.
The "STEM Girls Can Do" program offers education to girls in 5th and 6th grade of elementary school in public institutions in Celaya to strengthen their skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics with the objective of developing their capacity for creative problem solving, as well as emotional management and logical mathematical thinking, integrating information and communication technologies to their learning process. This program has been in place at Uni since 2019 and has had very good results due to the significant impact on the lives of both girls and participating mentors. To learn more about this program, watch this video.
During the January-June 2022 semester, biweekly sessions with "STEM Girls" are scheduled on Saturdays from 10:00 to 12:00 h; recently a rally was organized by students of Industrial Engineering and Mechatronics, in which they challenged the knowledge of girls through activities such as: multiplication bingo, robot programming, roulette prize or question, etc ... in an atmosphere of healthy coexistence and a lot of fun.
"I consider that the mentors in charge of the STEM girls are people who guide the participants in an assertive way, motivating the girls to get actively involved in each of the activities; ... as mentors we have an excellent opportunity to generate interest in the girls in areas in which engineering has a great involvement; a change of culture is being generated towards the acceptance and introduction of women to the area of technology and engineering because we can contribute great things and perform very efficiently" expresses Kathy Vera, STEM mentor.
If you want to live this experience, join the group of mentors of the "STEM Girls" program, contacting Mtra. Rosalinda Cerda (rlces@udec.edu.mx) and become an agent of the change you want for the world.
