Gerardo Ernesto, an Industrial Engineering student, was awarded the Uni scholarship for a semester at the University of Oviedo in Spain.
When you entered Uni did you know there were international programs?
- Yes, when I entered the Uni we were told about the possible opportunities and options of programs abroad and it was one of the reasons why I chose this university and my career.
Did you think you would go live and study abroad in your first semester?
- I didn't think I would have the opportunity to have this experience the first time I applied for the scholarship.
Have you ever lived or studied outside of Mexico before?
- No, it was my first time living and studying in another country for a longer period of time, I had already had the opportunity to be in Canada in a program of the same Uni but for a much shorter period of time.
What prompted or motivated you to study in another country?
- I was motivated by several things, the main ones were to try to get out of my comfort zone, learn new things, grow as a person, achieve all my goals and take advantage of every moment of this great experience.
Why did you decide to study in that country?
- Since the beginning of my career, the option I liked the most was Spain, I wanted to get to know a new culture, live and learn many things in a new continent totally different from ours.
How did you feel when you arrived in the new country?
- Obviously the first few days you feel nervous, uncertain and excited about what was to come, but little by little you adapt to life in this country and you feel proud of what you have achieved and obviously feel the great responsibility you have with yourself and your family.
How have you been received at the university where you arrived?
- We were received in a very friendly manner, they provided us with various things and information and from the first moment they made us feel supported and at home.
What will you miss most about Mexico?
- Personally, what I missed most about Mexico was my family, my girlfriend and my friends, but I also miss and value many things about our country, such as the food, the way of being of the people, the culture, etc.
What about the Uni?
- From Uni I mainly missed my class (my friends), the system we work with and the professors who give us their support and teachings day by day.
What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience?
- The best experience I have had is traveling around Europe, getting to know many places and meeting people, from whom you learn different things that will serve you in life.
And the hardest part?
- Obviously difficulties always arise, but the most difficult thing I went through was the difficulties we had at the beginning in terms of adaptation and finding a place to live, since we had certain problems, but I was solving them in a certain way and these experiences serve you in a positive way later on.
What do you expect as a person and as a professional from this program?
- This program has given me new skills and abilities to perform in the professional field in a better way and on the personal side I hope to have improved as a person, to be more courageous and to realize that any goal is achievable if you set your mind to achieve it.
Do you recommend these opportunities provided by Uni to your colleagues?
- Obviously yes, 100% recommendable, I think that it would serve anyone in a positive way to have the opportunity to live an experience like this, and it would give them a plus in the professional field and above all in the personal field. Thank you very much for this great opportunity.

Gisela was awarded the Uni scholarship to study a semester of her Bachelor's Degree in International Commerce in Gijón, Spain.
When you entered Uni did you know there were international programs?
Yes, I have colleagues who have told me about their experiences, which got me interested.
Did you think you would go live and study abroad in your first semester?
Well, originally, I wanted to take a year off to go to France as a nanny, but it didn't happen, so I continued studying at the University of Celaya and I looked for a way to study in another country.
Have you ever lived or studied outside of Mexico before?
Yes, I studied for 10 weeks in Quebec City, Canada, last year.
What prompted or motivated you to study in another country?
Learn about the culture of the country and how the education system is. Also meet new people from different countries and try different activities.
Why did you decide to study in that country?
I chose Spain because I wanted to get to know its culture, as it is completely diverse, I was interested in the European education system because when you leave the universities you can work in any EU country. I also wanted to learn about trade in Europe.
How did you feel when you arrived in the new country?
Surprise because I learned a lot about the Asturian culture, as well as the different provinces that exist in Spain.
How have you been received at the university where you arrived?
They were very kind, they explained to me how the system worked at the University, from the first day I met my classmates who also came from different parts of the world to study for a year or semester in Spain.
What will you miss most about Mexico?
The weather, the food and my family.
What about the Uni?
My teachers and my friends, because whenever I have doubts or problems they are always there to support me.
What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience?
Visiting new countries, seeing snow for the first time, learning to surf, dressing up at carnival, cooking and dining international food with my friends. But the experience that marked me the most was when I went sailing for the first time, I saw the city from another angle, learned about sailing and shared it with my best friends in Gijón.
And the hardest part?
Learning to live away from your family.
What do you expect as a person and as a professional from this program?
As a person to acquire new values and develop them even more, especially tolerance. As a professional, learn to relate to many people and to work with people from all over the world.
Do you recommend these opportunities provided by Uni to your colleagues?
Yes, studying in another country has made me grow in different areas, I got out of my comfort zone and started trying new things. It is definitely an experience that everyone should try.

Alissandra is currently pursuing a double international degree at the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria in Madrid. Upon completion of her studies, she will have a Bachelor's Degree in International Trade from the Uni and a Master's Degree in International Scenarios from the UFV.

- It was the plan since I started my career.

- Already, in Ireland one year.

- I loved the first experience I had, I wanted to repeat it.

- For the syllabus of the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria.
- How did you feel when you arrived in the new country?
- Excitement, happiness, tranquility and a bit of uncertainty.
- How have you been received at the university where you arrived?
- Excellent, the teachers have a very high level, my classmates are always willing to help me and the university in general is first world.
- What will you miss most about Mexico?
- My family, food and friends.
- What about the Uni?
- The teachers, how close it was to my house and the Blanquis jicamas.
10. What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience?
- Everything, everything has been an adventure and I have enjoyed it all too much.

- Saying goodbye to friends who were coming for a shorter period of time.

- As a person, I think it helped me to grow a lot and to realize many things. As a professional, it is a great addition to my CV.

Si sabia, de hecho, yo buscaba que me revalidaran materias en la UNI, pero si me revalidaban no podía irme de intercambio y decidí empezar la carrera de nuevo.

Fue una de mis metas desde un inicio de mi carrera.

Las ganas de conocer otra cultura, aprender otro idioma y tener esa gran experiencia

Había escuchado que la gente, el ambiente, la cultura eran muy buenas y que me harían sentir como en casa

La verdad me sentí un poco nervioso, emocionado y a la vez con miedo, pero con el tiempo todo fue mejorando.
How have you been received at the university where you arrived?
De la mejor manera posible, siempre al pendiente y siempre ayudándonos en lo que necesitáramos y siempre con una sonrisa.
What will you miss most about Mexico?
Obviamente a mi familia, y un poco la gastronomía. Pero me adapto fácilmente entonces no es como que extrañe mucho.

A mis amigos.
What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience?
Realmente todo, el intercambio lo considero como el mejor regalo, oportunidad o experiencia que nos han facilitado tanto nuestros padres como la universidad de Celaya.
And the hardest part?
Al principio el idioma, y nada más.
What do you expect as a person and as a professional from this program?
Realmente aprendí demasiado, crecí, madure supe lo que es estar en otro país sin tu gente sin tus raíces, el punto es saber aceptarlo, adaptarte y saber que será la mejor experiencia que puedas tener como estudiante. También espero que las próximas generaciones que vienen, sepan aprovecharlo al máximo y disfrutarlo.

Si ya sabía, pues las ofertas internacionales que ofrecía la Uni fueron una de las razones por las que entre a esta universidad.
When you entered your career, did you think you would go to live and study abroad?
En realidad sí porque era un sueño que había estado persiguiendo desde ya hace mucho tiempo y por el que siempre luché.
Have you ever lived or studied outside of Mexico before?
No, jamás. Esta es mi primera vez y puedo compartir que ha sido una experiencia memorable donde conocí a muchas personas y conocí tantos lugares y aprendí tanto.
What prompted or motivated you to study in another country?
Mi impulsaba el deseo de aventura y de conocer algo nuevo. Mucha gente con la que he estado había platicado historias increíbles de este lado del mundo y me dije que, algún día, yo también contaría esas historias.
Why did you decide to study in that country?
Decidí estudiar en España por las múltiples recomendaciones que había recibido por parte de otros alumnos que habían venido a la Universidad de Lleida y porque, quería conocer el otro lado del mundo y su gran cultura.
How did you feel when you arrived in the new country?
Sentí mucha emoción y miedo porque había llegado a un lugar que no conocía de nada. Recuerdo que cuando llegué a el aeropuerto aquel día, estaba desesperado porque estaba solo y no sabía qué hacer, pero pasaron los días, luego los meses y todo fue mejorando.
How have you been received at the university where you arrived?
Me recibieron muy bien y siempre fui bien atendido en cuanto a todas las dudas que tuve, y el personal y profesores siempre fueron muy atentos.
What did you miss most about Mexico?
Lo que más extrañé de México son mi familia, mi casa y los amigos que dejé. Ahora que estoy muy lejos pienso en lo importante que es todo eso y que antes no lo valoraba. Le agradezco mucho a mis padres y a la Uni por la oportunidad.
What about the Uni?
Extraño los sistemas de calificaciones porque aquí en España es muy distinto a como estamos acostumbrados nosotros.
What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience?
Lo más emocionante que he vivido en esta aventura fue conocer una de las ciudades de las que más hablan en películas y libros que es Londres. Es una experiencia que me dejó marcado y me enseñó que siempre hay cosas nuevas que descubrir y que debo agradecer por las cosas que me ha dado la vida.
And the hardest part?
Darte cuenta de qué estás solo y tienes que aprender a cocinar, a lavar y a cuidarte porque nadie más lo hará.
What do you expect as a person and as a professional from this program?
Espero que la universidad no deje de ofrecer oportunidades como ésta, motivando a los estudiantes para que participen.

Bastante. He estado en varias llamadas con algunos amigos y cuando me preguntan ¿Qué se siente estar de intercambio? Yo siempre les digo que no hay forma de explicar, que esto se tiene que vivir!!
