It integrates the areas of mechanics, electronics, computer systems and control, whose objective is to provide better products, processes and systems. Mechatronics is not, therefore, a new branch of engineering, but a recently developed concept that emphasizes the need for integration and intensive and intelligent interaction between different areas of engineering.

The term Mechatronics was conceived in 1969 by the Japanese Tetsuro Mori, who merged the word "mechanical" with "electronic" to describe a system during his time at Yaskawa Electric Corporation.

Students at the University of Celaya have the opportunity to study a double degree at the University of Celaya. University Master's Degree in MECHATRONIC Engineering, University of Oviedo at the same time that they conclude their studies for a degree in Mechatronics Engineering with a specialization in Industrial Process Automation.
