University of Celaya at Mexico-Cuba summit

With the presence of rectors and officials from 14 Cuban universities and heads and representatives of 21 Mexican Higher Education Institutions (HEI), the University of Celaya participated in the biannual meeting of Rectors Mexico-Cuba Summit on February 13 and 14 in the city of Guanajuato.

This event is developed in collaboration with the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES), the Ministry of Higher Education of Cuba and the Cuban Embassy in Mexico.

For our Rector, Dr. Martha Aguilar Trejo, this is a meeting that follows the line of international collaboration of the University of Celaya where there is a dialogue that allows the creation of strategic academic alliances to generate projects between institutions that contribute to the development of our students and our environment.

"Meetings like this one are fundamental to highlight the enormous effort that universities make in the generation of knowledge, understanding, cooperation, joint work, innovation and concrete strategies that solve problems from the local level but with a global vision; at the University of Celaya we are leaders in these issues and we are very committed to an international project of education, research and training," said our Rector.

For his part, the Executive Secretary General of ANUIES, Jaime Valls Esponda, said that the Rectors' Summit is a space for analysis and exchange of opinions to make higher education the true lever for the development of nations and said that the relationship between the two countries is going through an excellent stage to strengthen binational collaboration.

Internacionalizarse es salir fuera de lo común.

When you entered Uni did you know there were international programs?

Did you think you would go live and study abroad in your first semester?

Have you ever lived or studied outside of Mexico before?

What prompted or motivated you to study in another country?

Why did you decide to study in that country?

How did you feel when you arrived in the new country?

How have you been received at the university where you arrived?

What will you miss most about Mexico?

What about the Uni?

What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience?

And the hardest part?

What do you expect as a person and as a professional from this program?

Do you recommend these opportunities provided by Uni to your colleagues?

When you entered Uni did you know there were international programs?

Did you think you would go live and study abroad in your first semester?

Have you ever lived or studied outside of Mexico before?

Nunca, es mi primera experiencia internacional.

What prompted or motivated you to study in another country?

Why did you decide to study in that country?

How did you feel when you arrived in the new country?

How have you been received at the university where you arrived?

What will you miss most about Mexico?

Food.

What about the Uni?

A mis compañeros y amigos.

What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience?

And the hardest part?

What do you expect as a person and as a professional from this program?

Do you recommend these opportunities provided by Uni to your colleagues?

Gracias UNI!

I chose to go to China because it was the opposite of everything I knew.

When you entered Uni did you know there were international programs?

Yes, and I was very interested in it, it was one of the most important reasons for choosing to study at Uni.

Did you think you would go live and study abroad in your first semester?

It was always in my plans, I had it in mind and it was my main goal.

Have you ever lived or studied outside of Mexico before?

No

What prompted or motivated you to study in another country?

Knowing that there was so much more to the world than just what I saw and knew in my daily life, I wanted to open my mind and know as much as I could to know what my direction in life was.

Why did you decide to study in that country?

Because I wanted the exchange to give me as many experiences as possible, China was the ideal place because it was the most different from what I knew and I wanted to experience the opposite.

How did you feel when you arrived in the new country?

Thirst! It's my favorite word to describe what I felt ! thirsty to have more of everything, more new things, meet more people, know more places, learn more language, immerse myself more in the culture!

How have you been received at the university where you arrived?

Excellent ! From day one everyone was looking to help you without you asking for it and without expecting anything in return, incredible people who only seek your well being.

What will you miss most about Mexico?

Speak Spanish

What about the Uni?

The classes are more dynamic in Mexico we interact a lot with classmates and teachers and in China the classes are quieter and without much space for participation.

What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience?

To be able to experience and be able to see how much I was learning day by day, and how fast the mind can work, all the new skills you acquire, how the way you think evolves without changing the way you are and who you are.

And the hardest part?

Feeling literally lost at certain times, not being able to ask for directions, not knowing what to eat because the menu is in Chinese, not being able to ask for what you need.

What do you expect as a person and as a professional from this program?

I hope to be able to put into practice everything I learned and to be able to share all the experiences and skills I gained with all the people around me because they made me grow a lot on a personal level.

And on a professional level I was able to discover the skills I had and the ones I still need to develop, with the right attitude, dedication and time dedicated to activities that take advantage of your personality and knowledge are things worth investing your time in.

Do you recommend these opportunities provided by Uni to your colleagues?

Absolutely! It is one of the most enriching experiences you can have in life and we should not miss this opportunity that Uni gives us because it is for our personal and professional benefit that in the long run will benefit our lives, our environment and fortunately, our country!

I knew that getting here would be a big challenge.

When you entered Uni did you know there were international programs?

Yes, I knew there were exchange programs to other countries.

Did you think you would go live and study abroad in your first semester?

No, I had this idea until the 3rd semester.

Have you ever lived or studied outside of Mexico before?

No, I had never had the opportunity to live in another country, I had only had the opportunity to travel.

What prompted or motivated you to study in another country?

Getting to know a new culture, learning a new language, from the beginning I had the idea that an exchange promotes personal growth.

Why did you decide to study in that country?

Because I had the option between Chile and China and the decision was in how big I wanted my challenge, I chose China because everything about this country calls my attention, it is totally different from what I have in my country, it is like another world and I am very passionate about it.

How did you feel when you arrived in the new country?

A lot of nerves and excitement at the same time, because people don't even speak English here, I knew it would be a big challenge.

How have you been received at the university where you arrived?

The best!!! they are very kind and at all times are attentive to us, without a doubt the best people I've ever met.

What will you miss most about Mexico?

My family and food.

What about the Uni?

Friends

What is the most exciting thing you have experienced so far in this experience?

Well I must say that all my days since I arrived in China are exciting, all my days are different, every day I learn something different and I never get bored because there is always something new to discover or learn. I have become very enthusiastic about the language, I love having Chinese classes, and every day I realize that I know how to say more things and understand so many others.

On the other hand, I have visited dream places such as Guilin, the Chinese wall, Shanghai, among others.

I have made lifelong friends who have taught me how to be a better person.

Undoubtedly the best experience of my life

And the hardest part?

I have not really had any difficult things happen to me during my stay in China, I always try to stay positive and take everything in stride because I know that everything I experience here is an experience, even if it is not pleasant I just laugh at the situation and let it go.

What do you expect as a person and as a professional from this program?

I have grown a lot as a person, I am full of experiences and all of them have made me grow. Professionally it will help me a lot, my English is much better than when I left, I have a lot of business vocabulary and now my long term goals have no borders, literally if I have come here to study I can work anywhere else in the world even if it has to be in Chinese!

Do you recommend these opportunities provided by Uni to your colleagues?

Of course! from now on I try to convince them! they have to live this experience!
